Judas Priest Republicans Censured By Local RTC

Watertown Republican Town Committee

A Resolution of Censure

Whereas; prior to the November 4th election, the GOP controlled roughly 15% of the State Legislature, and no Statewide Constitutional Office…

And Whereas; it was therefore incumbent upon all Republican office-holders and high-profile, celebrated former officer-holders, to actively support faithful Republicans seeking office, or at the very least not cause divisions by endorsing their Liberal Democrat opponents…

And whereas; in spite of the fact that former Governor William Weld endorsed Barack Obama for President in 2008, the MA-GOP Leadership embraced him upon his return to Massachusetts, welcoming him back into the inner circle of decision-makers and party strategists, further celebrating the former Governor as a great Party Patriarch by honoring him with the Prestigious Lincoln-Reagan Award, and then showcasing him at the 2014 State Convention…

And whereas; Former Governor William Weld endorsed Michael Day, an extremely Progressive Democrat, who was also endorsed by the Uber-liberal “Mass Alliance” group, over Caroline Colarusso, a well qualified conservative Republican running for State Representative in the Republican friendly 31st Middlesex District, in which the Weld endorsed Democrat, Michael Day, went on to win by 1%…

And whereas; Former Governor William Weld endorsed Richard Moore, another very Progressive Democrat and entrenched incumbent over Ryan Fattman another well qualified and conservative Republican rising-star in the Worcester/Norfolk State Senate District race…

And whereas; Republican Essex County Sheriff endorsed the radical agenda-driven Uber-Liberal Maura Healey over the well-qualified Republican candidate John Miller for Attorney General…

And whereas; former MA-GOP Chair and current Chair of the MA Republican State Senate PAC, Brian Cresta endorsed Theodore (Ted) Speliotis, a Progressive Democrat who holds a 10% (f-) rating from Mass Fiscal Alliance and a similar grade from Citizens for Limited Taxation, over Republican Tom Lyons in a race for 13th Essex State Representative, in which Speliotis went on to win by 2%…

And whereas; Lawrence Republican (Former) Mayor Michael J Sullivan and Republican City Councilor Marc Laplante endorsed Progressive Democrat Marcos Devers over Republican Roger Twomey in the 16th Essex race for State Representatives…

And whereas; the Republican Party unity is necessary to End to One Party Rule in Commonwealth….

And whereas; the aforementioned actions, by the aforementioned high-profile Republicans caused deep wounds to party unity, furthermore they may well have had serious negative impact on the outcomes of the aforementioned races…

Therefore be it resolved; that on this day, December 3rd, in the year of Our Lord 2014, at a regularly scheduled meeting, we the duly elected members of The Watertown Republican Town Committee condemn in the strongest possible manner, the aforementioned endorsements of Democrats by the aforementioned high profile Republicans…. And further vote to censure Former Governor William Weld, Sheriff Frank Cousins, Former MA-GOP Chair & current Chair of the MA Republican State Senate PAC Brian Cresta, Former Lawrence Mayer Michael J Sullivan, and Lawrence City Councilor Marc Laplante.

Be it further resolved; that The Watertown Republican Town Committee, instructs our State Committee members from the Second Suffolk & Middlesex District, Steve Aylward and Elizabeth Mahoney, and our Regional Chair Brad Williams of the 4th MA-GOP State Committee Region, to propose and or vote for a similar measure at the next MA-GOP State Committee meeting….

Be it further resolved; that The Watertown Republican Town Committee calls upon MA-GOP Chair Kirsten Hughes to publicly announce that the MA-GOP will strip former Governor William Weld of the Prestigious Lincoln-Reagan Award, that he shall no-longer be invited to speak or have any place of honor at MA-GOP functions, that he be stripped of any and all other MA-GOP awards or recognition, and that he no longer be allowed to serve as an Ex-Officio Delegate at State Conventions…

Be it further resolved; that The Watertown Republican Town Committee holds that the aforementioned Republican office holders or high-profile Republicans who endorsed Democrats, should never be given any support by the MA-GOP in any future election….

Be it further resolved; that the Watertown Republican Town Committee suggest the MA Republican State Senate PAC replace the current Chair Brian Cresta, with a faithful Republican.

Be it further resolved; that The Watertown Republican Town Committee authorizes and instructs the Chair of the Committee to release this resolution to the Media and to send copies the following:

MA-GOP Chair Kirsten Hughes

RNC-National Committeeman Ron Kaufman

RNC-National Committeewoman Chanel Prunier

State Committeeman Steven Aylward

State Committeewoman Elizabeth Mahoney

Region 4 Chair Brad Williams….

Signed this day Dec. 3rd 2014

Idiocy. And the reason i don’t want to belong to ANY party as long as it wants to dictate me whom i must support, and whom – can’t.

  2. John DiMascio

MMS… I’ll give you the same answer I gave you on Redmass Group where you post the same comment verbatim using the name “onlooker.” Not for your sake… as you are pretty much a lost cause…but for others…lest they give your insanity the least bit of credibility.

It’s your right to choose to be unenrolled. But these people, all chose to become Republicans. Then some of them chose to run for office as Republicans. In so doing they were given access to Republican Party resources.

    ______________________________________________________________

No one is dictating to them who they must support or not support. They are free to support whomever they please, just as we are free to criticize their decisions. What they aren’t free to do is to take advantage of the party infrastructure, be celebrated as Republican Icons, and then expect to endorse Democrats, especially in tight races.

In the case of Weld, he is an honorary and ex-officio member of the State Committee, Well it says right in the by-laws all members of the State Committee have an obligation to support the whole ticket or face loss of membership on the State Committee.

Put another way…. a company hires you to be an executive for their firm. Then you turn around and help that companies chief competitor get a contract your firm has also bid for.
How long do you think you’ll keep your job, once it’s discovered ? Wouldn’t your employer have just cause to terminate your employment ?????????????????

Weld was brought back in to the inner sanctum, he took part in early strategy and planning sessions for the 2014 election, by MA-GOP Leadership. So don’t we as Republicans have a right to speak out when he betrays the trust and confidence shown him. It would be idiocy to not censure him.

Brian Cresta is another particularly egregious offender. He is the Chairman of the Massachusetts Republican State Senate PAC…. His job to is to raise money to help Republicans get elected to the State Senate. He may even be paid for that position. We don’t know. Regardless he took the position and took the responsibility to promote Republicans. So you think it’s idiocy to expect him to not publicly endorse and support a Democrat… a massively liberal Democrat like Speliotis. Granted Speliotis was running for State Rep seat, not a State Senate Seat…. even still Cresta’s actions are in fact treacherous. If he wanted to endorse a Democrat, he should have resigned as Chair of the PAC… He should have given up any right or privilege to be an ex-officio delegate at any convention.

Bottom line is that you don’t willingly help the New York Yankees score a run against the Boston Redsox, if you’re player on the Redsox. And for you to say that it’s idiocy for people to upset or for us to censure these people is total lunacy on your part. These people chose to be Republicans, chose to run as Republicans, chose to seek leadership positions within the Republican Party…. well that comes with the certain amount of responsibility. If you enlist in the army and then turn around in the middle of a battle and knowingly and purposely turn around and start firing on your fellow American Soldiers, in order to assist the enemy in winning the battle….. you’re guilty of treason…. And that’s exactly what these people did.

Now there is some serious idiocy surrounding the Weld endorsements. That idiocy was on the part of the MA-GOP leadership. What they hell were they thinking embracing Weld ,celebrating him as Party Patriarch, giving him the Lincoln/Reagan Award, featuring him at the Convention, and most egregiously bringing him in on Strategy meetings with Baker, Brown and others, when this guy had endorsed Barack Hussein Obama in 2008! The MA-GOP Leadership knew this guy was a Benedict Arnold. And even after his latest betrayals of Colarusso and Fattman, they still had the man speaking at MA-GOP events, out on the campaign trail with and for Baker in Lowell. Who the hall cut those brain-farts????

So yeah, there was some definitely a severe cognitive disconnect on the part of the MA-GOP Leadership.

I don’t know about the rest of these turncoats, but when it comes to Bill Weld what can you expect from anyone foolish enough to support Obama in 2008?? I agree that they should be censured by the party or at least not be given positions of honor as Weld was at the State Convention.

  4. With less than a year to get ready for the 2016 Campaign, the RCCs and RTCs better get off their RiNO asses and clean house – then kick some ass at the MassGOP level.

These GOD-DAMNED fake Republicans are worse than the Socialists masquerading as Democrats!

    1. John DiMascio

Mike…. this is a totally separate issue.
This resolution simply and strictly deals with Republican Officials or honored Republican celebrities, endorsing Democrats.

It has nothing to do with whether or not Weld, Cousins, Cresta, or any of these guys is Conservative, Moderate, Liberal, RINO, or “G.D. fake Republican.”

It has to do with their publicly endorsing a Republican candidate’s opponent.

I’m sure we both have conservative Republican friends who voted for someone other than Charlie Baker for Governor. While a disagree with them, I wouldn’t censure them, because they weren’t public about it and they for the most part weren’t party officials of any kind.

But had they been Republican Officials and had they been blatantly public about campaigning for or endorsing a non-Republican conservative against a Republican, then the MA-GOP would also be justified in taking some action as well.

You can’t be both a Republican Official and work against a Republican Candidate. If you want to support a non-Republican against a Republican, then resign you post as a Republican Official first.

There is little exception to this in my book.
The only time when I would find such behavior acceptable is if the Republican mot being supported is also guilty of working against Republican interests… So for example… the was one Republican Candidate this election cycle that made a big deal about boycotting the MA-GOP Convention because he disagreed with the Platform. His actions did damage to party and the ticket. Such a Republican, has therefore by his actions and words in as much stated that he invites other Republicans to not support him. Another example would be a Republican Leader who hires Ant-Republican activists as staff members and supports these staff members in their bids to become Party Officials. Such Republican is actually trying to defeat members of his own caucus… So again, by his actions he has rejected any loyalty by other Republicans.

Other than that, Republican **Officials** have no business openly trying defeat other Republican Candidates in a general election. And again… this has nothing to do with ideology.

  5. The problem with most GOP candidates is that they have no real core beliefs. How else can we explain the empty comments by People like Mitt Romney, Scott Brown, Charlie Baker, Gomez, etc.,? Scot Brown actually thought that being the most bipartisan senator in Washington was a big plus. He never understood that this, plus being called Sen Chuck Schumers favorite Republican, was actually the kiss of death. I don’t send people to Washington to work with people across the aisle–I send them there to beat people across the aisle because they’re crazy and dangerous. Mass candidates just don’t get it, which is why they see them as equals instead of intellectually inferior and without moral equivalence. If you are blind to the evils of the opposition, then why not support them once in a while?
